Watch: Molly Dilworth talks about her recent installation at Foothills Art Center in Colorado. Inspired by gems, mines, and natural materials within our everyday technologies, Molly paints the ceiling to emphasize these elements of our day-to-day life, which are taken for granted.

Molly Dilworth is the artist behind the incredible paintings decorating rooftops around the city and being picked up by Google satellites.
Her recent painting on the streets of Times Square has brought her much deserved notoriety. This on top of all her achievements including an installation at PULSE New York earlier this month, we couldn’t be more excited to bring you this studio interview and 9 (count them, 9!) limited edition prints, starting at $15.
Satellite Art: One Woman Tries to Create Google Earth Murals
Molly Dilworth thought having images of her rooftop paintings on Google Earth would get people talking about art. “I was a little frustrated with the hermetically sealed universe of painting,” she explained. ”Of course people care about it, but its not like music or movies; people have a favorite song, but not a favorite painting.”
She imagined people would stumble across her work while cruising Google Earth. She hoped that using the search giant’s satellites to move her murals into a digital space would push art into a larger conversation. She was wrong.

iheart variation 003_001, variation by Molly Dilworth:
I’m interested in the way icons communicate the essence of a thing through abstraction. I like the way icons change and mutate, like language, to keep themselves employed. It’s also my favorite thing about Seth’s project, that he’s encouraging and recording those mutations - a language isn’t alive if it’s not used.
I chose the ‘splat’ print which represents paint for me. I wanted to combine the symbol and the real thing so I made a poured painting on top of the print. They’re somehow together and separate at the same time.
